For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Spectacular 1919 Waterman 322 Black Hard Rubber Eyedropper Filler Taper Cap Fountain Pen with a fully hallmarked London 9CT solid goldsmooth overlay barrel. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and is now in wonderful writing condition. A very scarce and rare Waterman Fountain Pen is being offered. I have hand-cleaned the nib, feed, and section. I also hand-cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil.I have buffed and polished the outside of the cap and barrel along with the 14K Waterman #2 nib. This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with 9CTsolid gold smooth overlay. The Waterman Taper Cap displaysno wear with the cap imprint that reads, “WATERMAN’S IDEAL FOUNTAIN PEN N.Y. PAT. FEB. 12 & NOV. 4, 1884”. All the 9CT Overlay has been polished to shine brightly. The Taper Cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber or the 9ct gold overlay. The overlay is fully hallmarked with F.D.W. (Frank D. Waterman), 9 375 (gold content),d date code (1919), and Lion Head (London-made hallmark). There is no model number on the end of the barrel. This Waterman measures 5 3/4″ in length capped and 6 3/4″ posted. This Waterman Taper Cap Fountain Pen is an Eyedropper Fill type. I have tested the filling system with water and works as it was originally intended to. The Waterman Fountain Pen has aspectacular #2 Ideal New Yorkflexible nib. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .90mm when measured with digital calipers – a broad nib point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with amedium totriple broad stroke/line. Themedium line measures roughly .73mm and will flex to atriple broad stroke/line of 2.37mm with mediumto firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink. The nib writes smoothly with a wet line – it is extremely fun to write with if you like fully flexible, wet line variations. This Waterman Taper Cap Fountain Pen with 9CT Solid Gold Overlay Pattern is in incredible condition. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to grade in Excellent to Near Mint condition. Finding one of these early Waterman Taper Cap in smooth solid gold overlays is extremely scarce and certainly, a fantastic writing instrument to add to one’s writing arsenal collection.
